Frequently Asked Questions WI-Plug

What kind of Gas does the WI-Plug use to inflate?

CO2 (Carbon Di-oxide) which is a fire suppressor; we use disposable CO2 cylinder from the same type and manufacture as the American military uses.

What is the WI-Plug power source?

The WI-Plug used two D cell batteries, the entire device runs on 3 Volts DC.

Why does the WI-Plug need power?

The WI-Plug uses power in order to communicate with the ECU and in order to activate the firing pin to puncture the CO2 cylinder. It also uses the power to monitor the post activation bladder pressure in order to report the quality of seal.

Can the WI-Plug be used in flammable environments?

The Wi-Plug Remote Air edition or the Dock-Plug can be used in such environments.

Can the ECU (coordinator) be installed in the operations room?

Yes, the ECU can be installed far away from the actual drains, if needed we supply repeater to boost the signal. There is no limit to the distance between the operation room and the drains.

Can the system be activated using a PC?

Yes, the system can be activated using our software via the PC or using the RCU (remote).

Can the system work Without a PC in case the PC crashes?

Yes, the system is 100% independent and will continue to function without the PC (except for Email notification).

Can the system work in case of a power outage?

Yes, the ECU will keep working during a power outage for over 24 hours.

What diameter of pipes can the WI-Plug be installed?

At any diameter between 6" and 30", we are currently working on increasing the maximum to 36".

What is the range of the remote?

The remote uses a high power RF module and can be used to distance of hundreds of meters

Can the WI-Plug be used in outfalls and catch basins in a horizontal installation?

Yes, the WI-Plug can be mounted in the vertical and horizontal position systems.

Can the WI-Plug be installed in heavy equipment, traffic and loading areas?

Yes, the WI-Plug will be below grade and protected by the metal sewer grate.

Can the WI-Plug be accidentally activated by other wireless signals?

No, activation is coded and encrypted.

What kind of encryption does the WI-Plug system use?

The system uses a customer specific encryption code that is use to encrypt every message. On top of the encryption any unit that doesn't appear in the Coordinator DB is ignored. Only ChemiGreen can add unit into the DB.

Will the WI-Plug cause interference with other radio operations on site?

No, all RF communication is to FCC standards. The system will not cause any interference nor be susceptible to it.

Is there a fail-safe alerting system for a low battery?

The system monitors the battery status continuously and will notify the user via email or SMS when replacement is needed.

Is the battery changing procedure simple?

Yes, the system uses standard D cell batteries and the replacement is done by a qualified technician.

Do employees need specialized training to operate the system?

No, any person can operate the system with minimal training. Complete shut down is achieved with a designated 'Emergency Switch' or remote control device.

Is deployment failure monitored?

Yes, the system monitors deployment status in real time and reports back via SMS or email.

Will the system work while submerged?

Yes, the system can work submerged as long as the antenna remains above the fluid.

Can the system handle any type of chemical?

Yes, prior to installation we will match the type of chemicals in your facility to the correct materials in the WI-Plug. Nitrile is used for hydrocarbons such as oils and fuels. For acids and bases a viton bladder will be used. Viton is a Teflon based rubber.

Can you print a status report?

Yes, the system has a full status report on the PC screen; the system also sends Emails upon event.

How does the WI Plug sleeve connect to the drain pipe?

The WI-Plug protective sleeve connect to the drain pipe in two ways: one way grippers to ensure water pressure can't push sleeve and a unique type of O-ring seal to ensure water does not flow between the sleeve and drain pipe.

How low in the drain can it be installed?

There is no limit to the depth of installation.

How often do you have to inspect the WI-plug to insure that the system is operational as per requirements?

The system is inspected by a certified technician once a year.

How many drains can be connected to the same network?

Up to 128 drains, remotes and repeaters can be connected to one coordinator.

Can debris accumulate on top of the WI-plug system? Will it interfere with the operation?

Large object can accumulate in any drain; the unit can deploy regardless of most debris. Example, if a 2x4 is in the way the system will still deploy and provide a seal for the bulk of the chemicals. Small seepage will occur in the rare case of such a large foreign object.

Can you deflate the bladder once cleanup complete? Can it be reused?

Yes, the bladder can be deflated by the PC software (the remote doesn't have this option for safety reasons). The unit can be re-used once a certified ChemiGreen technician has serviced the WI-Plug.

Would it work with Mac operating system?

No, currently the system only supports Windows.

Would we get a reduction in insurance costs should we install WI-Plug systems? How much?

Each case is unique; in some cases a deduction in premium or deductibles is possible.

What kind of pressure can the bladder hold?

The WI-Plug can hold more then 30 psi, which translates to 60 feet of water above it.

Can the system work in harsh weather conditions?

Yes, the system was design to withstand the harsh Canadian winter and is not hindered by ice or snow.
